"I have taught film classes and workshops for more than 20 years. The FITP was the best experience of my professional filmmaking career. Everyone involved with the program, the other instructors, and especially the trainees were totally dedicated to the program. My camera students were serious about their training and worked hard from beginning to end."

CURRICULUMThe Summer Film Industry Training Program (FITP) equips students with the specialized skills and hands-on experience they need to pursue careers in the industry. Students explore the industry's many facets and learn about union membership, which is required to work on the majority of large film and episodic television productions in the state. All FITP classes are taught by motion picture professionals, providing students with the valuable and unique opportunity to build relationships with accomplished professionals in the field. All instructors have significant career experience and are active members of the motion picture trade union related to the skills they teach. The Summer FITP is a one-month program, broken down into four weekly segments: production overview, concentrated training, pre-production and production. Classes are taught from 9 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with an hour break for lunch. Because of the highly concentrated nature of the instruction, attendance is mandatory throughout. Upon successful completion of the FITP, graduate trainees will receive a certificate of completion from The Office of Film, Television & Digital Media (CT Film Office) of the CT Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD). The online FITP application form requires each trainee applicant to select an area of concentration, with courses based on the departmental structure of feature and episodic television production. Depending on enrollment, the 2011 courses are: Assistant Direction, Location Management, Production Office Coordination, Script Supervision, Lighting and Grip, Camera, Sound, Property and Set Dressing, and Wardrobe. Instructors may present course content in different sequence and/or otherwise vary course content and structure according to their wishes. Specific classes may or may not be taught, and may be consolidated and/or eliminated due to demands of attendance, staffing, equipment, facilities, and/or space. All applications for the 2011 Summer Film Industry Training Program must be submitted electronically, with $10 online application fee, by 5:00 on Wednesday, June 1, 2011.
